La Méridionale

Based in Marseille and founded in 1928, La Méridionale is a maritime company specializing in the transportation of freight and passengers between Corsica, the mainland, and Morocco. Since 2023, it has been part of the CMA CGM Group.

La Méridionale is committed to environmental sustainability and strives to minimize the impact of its operations. Some of its initiatives include:

• Connecting to shore power: reducing the use of diesel engines during port calls.
• Using particle filters made from sodium bicarbonate to reduce emissions.
• Treating ballast water to avoid disrupting marine ecosystems.
• Deploying tools for tracking cetaceans in the Mediterranean to aid in their protection.
• Constructing hybrid LNG/electric battery ships, which reduce underwater noise, vibrations, and CO2 emissions. (Delivery expected in end 2026 - beg 2027)
