On 29 and 30 April in Marseille, CMA Ships played an active role in the 2026 Hydro Contest, a flagship event dedicated to maritime innovation and the energy transition, organized by the French Maritime Academy (ENSM).

During a panel discussion on the future of maritime decarbonization, Xavier Leclercq, VP New Building at CMA Ships, shared the Group’s vision for accelerating the industry's transition. He highlighted the complementary role of fleet retrofit projects and the development of alternative energies such as LNG, biomethane and e-methanol, while emphasizing the importance of combining innovation, industrial feasibility and measurable environmental impact.

CMA Ships’ commitment was further demonstrated through the involvement of Théophile Henry, Drydocks Deputy Director, who served as a jury member for retrofit projects presented by students and start-ups. He also designed the Retrofit Challenge, an educational initiative based on real operational data from a CMA CGM vessel, challenging participants to develop practical solutions to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions within realistic operational and budgetary constraints.

The company was also represented in the event village, where three young seafarers welcomed nearly 1,000 students and introduced them to life at sea, the challenges of maritime decarbonization, and career opportunities within the Group.

Through its participation in the panel discussion, educational activities, jury sessions and student outreach, CMA Ships reaffirmed its commitment to supporting innovation, advancing the maritime energy transition and inspiring the next generation of maritime professionals.
