His role is to prepare voyages, update nautical charts, and keep watch to ensure a safe passage.
The Second Officer is the vessel’s navigation specialist. He is responsible for voyage planning, chart updates, and the maintenance of navigation equipment, while also contributing to safety at sea.
He also keeps watch on the bridge, monitors the vessel’s position, and ensures compliance with international navigation rules. In addition, the Second Officer manages medical supplies and acts as the vessel’s medical officer, helping to ensure the crew’s health and readiness.
This role combines technical expertise, precision, and leadership, making it a critical position in ensuring the safety and efficiency of vessel operations.

I spent several years at sea, an invaluable experience that facilitated my transition to crew management . After a rewarding career in the shipping industry within the Group, I was appointed Human Resources Director. Recognizing the importance of human capital, I pursued a master’s degree in HR to better support our Talents and dedicated seafarers. I am a 25-year-old Deck Officer currently serving on the CMA CGM HYDRA. I started as a Cadet on the CMA CGM ALEXANDER VON HUMBOLDT, I have since gained experience on vessels like the CMA CGM AGADIR, CMA CGM NADOR, and CMA CGM TANGER . Passionate about the maritime industry, I focus on innovation and professionalism, and I am honored to serve as a Seafarer Ambassador.
Joining COMANAV as a cadet was the beginning of an exceptional journey. Trained at High Institute of maritime Studies ISEM Major de Promotion, I embarked on our ships with the ambition to learn and grow. Thanks to rigorous training and unique career opportunities, I climbed the ranks step by step, gaining skills and responsibility. Before turning 30, I had the honor of being appointed captain a source of pride and proof that determination and merit are always rewarded at COMANAV .
